What's Google Hiding?

Wednesday 31 March, 2004, 07:52 PM

Is is just me or is Google now excessively aggressive in its omission of "very similar" entries?

I never used to bother clicking on the link to show all the hits, because whenever I had tried it, it always used to behave as advertised: it would contain nothing but copies of stuff I'd already seen. But twice in the last week I've found that it only shows what I was looking for when I click on the link.

On both occasions, I only found these things because I knew they existed and was surprised when they didn't turn up at first. (I was just using Google as a way of not having to remember exactly where these pages were.) So this makes me wonder how much stuff that I don't know about that I'm missing out on...

I wonder if this is part of the goo they've added to try and be less swayed by massive cross linking in blogs - one of the things that I only found by showing the full set of matches was a blog entry.
