There has been an alarming trend in recent years for houses to be built on land formerly occupied by water meadows here in the UK. While this offers an expedient solution to the apparent shortage of places to live in this somewhat crowded country, it’s not a brilliant idea. These two photographs show why:
Not only is this a great illustration of why the flat bit of land around a river is called a ‘flood plain’ it’s also a graphic demonstration of why you really don’t want your house to be built there!
